Redhawk Advisory, LLC (“Redhawk”) recently added Alyx Harris, a graduate of Southern University and A&M College where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Economics. Alyx will be interning for 10 weeks as part of the HBCUvc Internship Program.
HBCUvc’s vision is to build a global innovation economy where Black, Indigenous, and Latinx innovators can boldly create, fail, invest, and thrive.
HBCUvc’s Summer Program partners with organizations such as VC firms, foundations, and Mayoral Offices in regional communities to offer paid VC internships. The 2021 HBCUvc summer internship program is designed as a 10-week long apprenticeship with a venture capital firm.
Participants complete a two-week training program to learn investment and entrepreneurship fundamentals, followed by eight weeks of hands-on experience through placements at venture capital funds. The HBCUvc Internship Program is designed to increase access and opportunity in venture capital for graduates of Historically Black Colleges and Universities.
Alyx shared her excitement about the internship,”Joining the HBCUvc cohort as a 2021 summer fellow is an opportunity of a lifetime. I’m able to gain firsthand experience about venture capital and make new connections with the HBCUvc community. It’s an honor to be a part of the emerging VC community in Birmingham and to heighten my skills in private equity with support from an experienced team.”
During her internship, Alyx will be an integral part of the Redhawk team and participate in almost all facets of the business. “It’s our goal to make sure Alyx sees what it’s really like to do what we do,” said Matt Hottle, Partner at Redhawk. “That includes everything from the exciting to the mundane. We can be sure that when she completes her internship, she’ll have gained meaningful experience working in early-stage venture capital.”
